Pewter has managed to survive throughout the centuries due to its unique material properties. As a casting medium, the combination of primarily tin, mixed with small amounts of copper and antimony, has garnered a long-lasting respect among those who appreciate fine objets dart. Pewter is prized for its workability, value, and beauty. The use of pewter spans all countries and cultures. In ancient times its use for household utensils closely succeeded wood. Pewter objects were made in China 2000 years ago, and the Romans used it for seals of office. The French used fine pewter domestic objects in their homes, even before it caught on in England, which then became the center of production in medieval Europe.
Patrick Meyer Studio uses only the finest quality pewter, which is lead-free and food safe. They recommend you wash your pewter by hand in warm soapy water, then rinse and towel dry with a soft cloth. This will maintain the beautiful lustre of the products. Some of the kitchen utensils have been coated, so that they may be put in the dishwasher. However, they do recommend that you remove them after the cycle is complete, and not let them sit overnight.
Pewter should not be used in the oven, on the stove, or exposed to an open flame, as it has a low melting point. If you wish to polish one of our pieces, there are various paste, or crme cleaners and polishing compounds on the market for maintaining pewter. You may also combine baking soda with water or vinegar to form a paste. Rub the paste on the piece with a soft cloth (slight bubbling may occur). Thoroughly wash, rinse and towel-dry the piece. products.
